Brief Biography

Spirina L. graduated from the Medico-Biological Faculty of the Siberian State Medical University, Tomsk (SSMU)In 2001. Since 2001 till 2003 she had a postgraduate study in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and got a PhD. Since 2003 till 2006 she worked in the Medical Clinic in Khabarovsk region. Since 2006, Spirina L.V. had a position of a senior researcher in the Laboratory of Tumor Biochemistry in the Cancer Research Institute of the Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. She completed the residency of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostic in Siberian State Medical University. In 2013 she got degree of Doctor of Medicine. From 2014 till present time she is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a course in Clinical Laboratory diagnostics in the SSMU.

Research Interests

L.V. Spirina is the author of more than 130 published works, including the monograph "Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck: the molecular basis of pathogenesis."

The main scientific interests are molecular markers of development and progression of malignant neoplasms. The main subject of scientific work is the conduct of fundamental research on the role of proteolytic enzymes in the development of malignant neoplasms. Spirina L.V. has received important results both for understanding the patterns of tumor growth, and in practice for the formation of high-risk groups and evaluating the prognosis of malignant tumors. Currently she develops molecular approaches for the optimal choice of targeted drugs in patients with disseminated kidney cancer.

Achievements, awards, and grants

Dr. Spirina participates in research projects, such as RFBR projects (RFBR, №13-04-00169, №14-04-91150 GFEN_а), Federal Target Program "Scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia" in 2009-2013; President Grant.

The experience in project of investigation of biologically active molecules in the development of malignant tumors. There were obtained novel data on the proteolytic regulation of growth and transcription factors in tissues of squamous cell head and neck cancer, renal cancer, endometrial, breast. Based on the study of molecular indicators have been developed unique patent of the development of lymph node metastases in cancer of the head and neck prognosis (RF patent №2527338, №2426991), of the development of haematogenous metastases in kidney cancer prognosis (RF patent № 2528100), of the outcome prognosis of bladder cancer patients (RF patent №2538632) and assess the risk of endometrial cancer in patients with endometrial hyperplasia (RF patent № 2554505).
