Brief Biography

M.B. Plotnikov graduated from the Biology Faculty of Tomsk State University in 1971 with a degree "biophysics". From 1971 he worked at the Department of Pharmacology of the Tomsk Medical Institute as a senior laboratory assistant, then as an assistant and senior teacher. In 1986, he was hired as a senior researcher, and in 1987 he was transferred to the position of head of the Laboratory of Circulatory Pharmacology at the Institute of Pharmacology, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. Doctor of Biological Sciences (1985), professor in the specialty "Pharmacology" (2003).

Research Interests

M.B. Plotnikov is a leading specialist in the field of circulatory pharmacology. He is the author of more than 500 publications, including 8 monographs (3 of them were published in the USA), more than 50 inventions protected by copyright certificates of the USSR and patents of the Russian Federation. M.B. Plotnikov was a member of the authors' teams for the preparation of the Guidelines for the conduct of preclinical studies of drugs (Moscow, 2013). Under his leadership 3 doctoral dissertations and 19 master's theses have been prepared and defended. Under the leadership of M.B. Plotnikov and with his direct participation developed more than 10 new drugs, of which 2 were included in the State Register and are produced by the pharmaceutical industry, one drug successfully passed clinical studies, and for a number of others a full cycle of preclinical studies was conducted.

Achievements, awards, and grants

The creation of M.B. Plotnikov and his team of new drugs were repeatedly supported by grants from state funds: the Federal Target Program “Development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 and beyond” (grants 16.N08.12.1007, 16.N08.12.1006, 14.N08. 12.0002, 14.N08.12.0029), RFBR (grants 05-03-08149, 06-04-08006 and 07-04-08006), Federal Target Program "Research and development on priority problems of the development of the scientific and technological complex of Russia for 2007-2012" (Grant 02.512.11.2229), of the Foundation for Assistance to the Development of Small Forms of Enterprises in the Scientific and Technical Sphere (grant 05-6-N2-0018), Federal Target Program “Research and development in priority areas for the development of science and technology for civilian use” (grant 02/5 of January 14, 2000), Administration of Tomsk Region (grants 1999, 2000). In 2000, M.B. Plotnikov won the Russian biomedical projects competition held by Fraunhofer Management GmbH (Germany), the results of which he was invited to participate in the presentation of his project at the Analytics 2000 exhibition in Munich.
M.B. Plotnikov was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation" (2010), he was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Badge of Excellence in Healthcare of the Russian Federation (2005). For a significant contribution to medical science and health care, the team of the laboratory headed by M.B. Plotnikov, became the winner of the Tomsk Region Prize in Education and Science (2000). M.B. Plotnikov was elected a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, awarded with an individual grant of the ISF (Soros Foundation, 1993) and an individual grant of the Russian Academy of Sciences for distinguished scientists (2001-2003).
