Brief Biography
Evgeniy Sherstoboev graduated from the medical faculty of the Tomsk State Medical Institute in 1987. Since 1987, he worked at the Scientific Research Institute of Mental Health, Tomsk Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, as a psychiatrist, and then, in 1988, he moved to the Research Institute of Pharmacology, Tomsk Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. He has gone from a senior laboratory assistant to the head of the immunopharmacology department.
Since 1999 ‑ Doctor of Medical Sciences, since 2006 ‑ Professor in the specialty “Pathological physiology”, since 2002 to the present ‑ Head of the Department of Immunopharmacology at the Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, and since 2018 ‑ Chief Scientific Researcher of the Department of Immunopharmacology of Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine of Tomsk National Research Medical Center.
Research Interests
The main direction of scientific research of Evgeniy Sherstoboev is to study the mechanisms of immunotropic effects of natural origin drugs at normal and pathological state of immune system. In particular, during the scientific work of Evgeniy Sherstoboev and under his leadership there was completed a large cycle of studies on the patterns and mechanisms of functioning of the hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues under stress and cytostatic effects, as well as methods for correcting the identified pathological changes. The features of the immune and blood systems response to a thymus-dependent antigen in mice with different genotypes in norm and after the administration of an antitumor drug (cyclophosphamide) or immobilization stress, patterns of action of various immunotropic drugs in genetically heterogeneous animals were studied. The immunotropic properties of total extracts and individual biologically active substances from more than a dozen plants of Siberia and the Far East were investigated. The materials of his research were reported and discussed at regional, All-Russian and international scientific conferences and congresses.
Evgeniy Sherstoboev directly participated in the development and study of the pharmacological properties and mechanisms of action of new immunotropic drugs ‑ Anaferon and Anaferon Children, as well as anti-inflammatory drug Arthrofoon. After carrying out the entire complex of preclinical and clinical studies of these original drugs, permits were obtained for their production and clinical use. Under the guidance of Evgeniy Yu. Sherstoboev the immunotoxic and allergenic properties of a number of new drugs — Thiophane, D-glucuronic acid, Ecorsin, Proprotene, Poetam, Afala, Artrophoon, Para-tyrosol, Mediborol, agents immobilized on polyethylene oxide — proinsulin, interferon alfa-2b, GC-CSF, oligonucleotides, hyaluronidase ‑ have been studied.
Evgeniy Sherstoboev is the author of more than 170 publications, including 2 monographs, has 15 Russian patents for inventions. Under his leadership, 2 doctoral and 6 master's theses were defended.
Achievements, awards, and grants
Evgeniy Sherstoboev takes an active part in the implementation of the federal target program “Development of the medical and pharmaceutical industry of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 and further perspective”. Within the frameworks of this program, the immunotoxic, allergenic and immunotropic properties of several innovative drugs were studied: sulfur hexafluoride agent for ultrasound visualization of focal formations of inflammatory genesis; hemorheological agent based on hydroxyethyl starch with 2,6-diisobornylphenol, agent based on 1-alkyl-2-alkylcarbamoylglycerol having antihypertensive activity, immobilized interferons alpha 2b and lambda, etc.
The researches of Evgeniy Sherstoboev was rewarded with a grant from the regional public “Fund for Support of Domestic Medicine” (2000, 2001), a presidential grant for supporting leading scientific schools in the Russian Federation, a grant from the “Siberian School of Pharmacology of Academician E.D. Goldberg” (2008), rewarded with a diploma of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (May 2009).
Evgeniy Sherstoboev is a member of the Academic Council of the Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine. From 1999 to 2002, he was the secretary of the Expert Council for the examination of the efficiency and safety of medicines developed and produced in Siberia and the Far East.
