Brief Biography

Leonid Nikolaevich Maslov graduated with honors from the Faculty of General Medicine of Tomsk Medical Institute. In 1991 he defended doctoral thesis titled  "Opiatergic Heart Protection Mechanisms from Arrhythmias with Experimental Coronary Occlusion." for an academic degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences.  In 1996 he defended doctoral thesis titled “The Role of the Opioid System in the Regulation of Arrhythmogenesis and Adaptive Protection Mechanisms of the Heart under Stress" for an academic degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. In 2003 He was awarded an academic title of Professor. Since 1996 he has been working as the head of laboratory of experimental cardiology of Cardiology Research Institute.

Research Interests

Research interests of L.N. Maslov include the study of the role of opioid and cannabinoid receptors in the regulation of cardiac resistance to the action of ischemia-reperfusion, study of molecular mechanisms of the cardioprotective effect of adaptation to hypoxia, infarct-limiting effect of hypoxic preconditioning, molecular mechanisms of heart postconditioning. The stress-limiting activity of the pharmacological agents is evaluated, and inotropic infarct-limiting and antiarrhythmic activity of drugs in vivo and in vitro is studied in a laboratory headed by L.N. Maslov In the experiments on isolated mitochondria, respiration of these organelles, state of MRI pores and Δψ are evaluated. Studies are conducted in close contact with colleagues from the Czech Republic, the United States, Israel, China and Great Britain.
