Brief Biography
Yuri B. Lishmanov graduated with honors from the Faculty of General Medicine of the Mordovian State University in 1974. Since June, 1981, he has been working in Cardiology Research Institute (Tomsk): first as s Senior Scientist in the Laboratory of Pathophysiology of Extreme Conditions and then as a Head of the Laboratory of Radionuclide Imaging Studies.
In 1988, Yuri B. Lishmanov defended his doctoral thesis for an academic degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. From December, 1991 to 2015, he held the position of a Deputy Director for Research. Since 2015, he has been a Scientific Supervisor of the institute.
Research Interests
As a scientist, Yuri B. Lishmanov is known in Russia and abroad. He is an author of over 850 scientific works including 27 patents of inventions. He is an author and a co-author of eight monographs, a chapter in the textbook of “Pathophysiology” for medical institutions of higher education, six teaching and guiding recommendations, guidelines of “Radionuclide Diagnostics for Practicing Physicians”, and National Guidelines for Radionuclide Diagnostics.
As a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Yuri B. Lishmanov established a scientific school of pathophysiologists and radiologists. During his scientific career, under his supervision, 20 and 40 dissertations have been defended for academic degrees of a Candidate of Sciences and a Doctor of Sciences, respectively.
Research activities of Yuri B. Lishmanov are diverse and include fundamental and applied aspects. Primary areas of his research are as follows:

Developing the methodology of cardiovascular radionuclide studies in experiment and in clinics.

Creating new radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear cardiology.

Generating the concept concerning the role of endogenous opioid system in the mechanisms of non-specific resistance of the organism and evaluating the stress-limiting, cardioprotective, and antiarrhythmic properties of ligands for opiate receptors.
Achievements, awards, and grants
Yuri B. Lishmanov is a laureate of two Tomsk Region Administration Awards in the Field of Science and Education (1998, 2002). He was awarded with the Certificate of Merit from the Tomsk Region Administration for substantial contribution to organization and development of specialized cardiological care (2000), the Certificate of Merit from the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences for fruitful works advancing medical science and healthcare (2000), the Letter of Appreciation from the Tomsk Region Duma for substantial contributions to the development of practical healthcare and to Tomsk and Russian academic science (2004), the Certificate of Merit from the Tomsk Region Legislative Duma for substantial contribution to medical science and practical healthcare (2011), the Commemorative Jubilee Medal in Celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the City of Tomsk (2004), the Medal n.a. M. I. Nemenov from the Presidium of Nevsky Radiology Forum (2009), and the Medal n.a. A. D. Spernasky from the Presidium of the Russian Society of Pathophysiology (2011). In 2014, Yuri B. Lishmanov has been awarded with the title of “Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation”.
